Project Manager

The Aristotle Foundation for Public Policy is an educational and public policy think tank based in Calgary, Alberta. We are hiring a Project Manager to help us champion reason, democracy, and civilization in Canada. The Project Manager will be responsible for assisting the Research Director in realizing the research objectives of the organization.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• under the Research Director’s oversight, shepherding research initiatives from ideation to publication, such as:
  • assigning research to scholars
  • drafting and coordinating project contracts
  • scheduling, following up, and shepherding workflows
  • assigning peer review
  • editing drafts

• in concert with the President and Research Director, taking the lead to commission, edit, coordinate, and pitch a steady flow of short, high quality public commentaries (e.g. columns, op-eds, blogs, etc.) by various senior fellows
• administrative tasks (e.g. extensive, accurate reporting) and other duties as assigned including events planning

Basic requirements:

• university degree
• experience in public policy, research, politics, and/or media
• legally allowed to work in Canada and resides in Canada
• strongly believes in the mission of the Aristotle Foundation
• deep conviction that everyone should be free to flourish

Required skills:

• knows how to research in depth
• outstanding ability to discern and establish specific priorities—and follow through
• can readily identify weak vs strong arguments, poor vs rich data, credible vs unreliable evidence, and inconsistencies
• excellent grasp of data and statistics
• exceptional editor, with a mastery of English composition
• good op-ed writer—i.e. can succinctly and interestingly explain complex topics in accessible, everyday language
• very organized and an imaginative and strategic thinker—a natural planner
• extraordinary work ethic and a can-do self-starter
• not at all shy about taking initiative, correcting errors, and/or making improvements even to the most minor elements of a project
• great at working with a wide variety of personalities, egos, and backgrounds
• seriously practical: can mediate between the vision and the given
• highly proficient in both MS Word and MS Excel

The position:

• Full-time, starting date TBD.
• Compensation dependent on experience and qualifications.
• The Aristotle Foundation is located in Calgary. This position can be remote but must be in Canada; Calgary is strongly preferred.
